Almost everyone has at least one box of photos gathering dust in the closet. Instead of keeping them in the closet where you can't enjoy them, devote a bit of time to preserving your photo memories in a scrapbook.
Scrapbooking has long been a favorite way of preserving photos. Because there are so many different options when creating a scrapbook, you are basically limited only by the amount of time you have to devote to the activity and your own level of creativity. A scrapbook might simply be a book of photos combined in a book with a bit of journaling, or it could be an artistic combination of photos, journaling, stickers and paper cutouts. There isn't a right or wrong way to create a scrapbook, which makes it even more fun.
If you've never created a scrapbook before, you can get some ideas by searching online or by purchasing a scrapbooking magazine. Or, if you are just naturally creative, simply follow your own instincts and see what you can come up with. Many people who scrapbook trim or "crop" their photos before placing them in the book. However, if you are hesitatn to cut your photos, you can place them in the scrapbook without trimming them, or even scan and print them so that you can save the originals and cut the copies.
You can create a multi-purpose scrapbook with a variety of photos, or create one with a specific theme. For example, a scrapbook of your children's photos as they were growing up can be a lot of fun, or one of a favorite family vacation. You could buy a scrapbook with a themed cover to match the subject of the photos if you want to.
Keeping your photos safe and protected is also part of creating a scrapbook. To insure that they are preserved for a long time, use acid-free paper and accessories. You should also be sure not to store your finished scrapbook in a humid location, as this could cause the paper and the photos to deteriorate over time.
Finally, since the times are changing, there are also now options to create virtual scrapbooks online. This may be a more popular option with younger crowds as they tend to be on the Web all of the time and can share their scrapbooks with all of their friends. It is certainly a different type of dynamic than the tangible approach, but everyone can find something that they prefer.
